Design determines cost reduction: a typical approach 

A flex layer outside allows: 

• the use of flexible solder-mask in place of a cover layer  
• the use of a more cost-effective base material  
• fewer and simpler production processes  

Version 1 ==> Version 2

The preconditions for version 2 are the following designs: 

• Crossovers only in the rigid areas and  
• 1:1 over the flex area  
• Omission of unnecessary layers (ground and shielding layers)
